White clothes can come out of the wash clean and still look anything but fresh. Yellow underarms, dull collars and grey-looking bed sheets can make it seem like you have not done the laundry properly, even when you have.
Chlorine bleach might seem like the easiest fix, but it can damage fabric and fade coloured prints or stitching. A colour-safe bleach alternative helps tackle stains and yellowing without that risk or the hassle of mixing DIY treatments.

What makes laundry bleach colour-safe?
The word bleach often brings to mind a bottle of strong-smelling chlorine bleach. Colour-safe laundry bleach works differently.
Instead of sodium hypochlorite, colour-safe bleach uses oxygen-based ingredients to break down the coloured compounds in stains. This helps remove marks and brighten clothes without the same aggressive bleaching action that can damage fabric or fade colours.
You also avoid that strong chlorine smell, which can make an ordinary laundry room feel anything but fresh.
Some bleach alternatives use hydrogen peroxide. Our formula uses PAP, short for phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid, an oxygen-based bleaching ingredient that helps lift stains and brighten clothes without chlorine.
Each sheet also contains TAED, or tetraacetylethylenediamine. TAED is a bleach activator, which means it helps oxygen-based whitening work effectively during the wash, including at lower temperatures.
But whitening is only part of the job. Stains and yellowing are often caused by several things at once, so the sheets use three different approaches.
How do bleach alternatives keep clothes clean and bright?
Ever noticed how a white shirt can look freshly washed but still have a yellow mark under the arm? That is because sweat, body oil and discolouration are different problems, and one ingredient cannot always fix all three.

The American Cleaning Institute explains that different enzymes target different types of stains. How to use a colour-safe bleach alternative
There is no bottle to pour, powder to measure or bleach dispenser to fill. Simply place one sheet directly into the washer with your clothes, add your regular laundry detergent and start your normal wash cycle.
The sheet dissolves as the machine fills, and the rinse cycle takes care of the rest. It works in front loaders, top loaders and high-efficiency washing machines, whether you prefer cold, warm or hot water.
Tip: Add the sheet to the drum rather than the detergent compartment.
For clothes with heavier yellowing or tough stains, dissolve one sheet in water and soak the items up to 2 hours before the regular washing. Check that the mark has lifted before using the dryer because heat can make some remaining stains harder to remove.
Is colour-safe bleach the same as laundry detergent?

Can you use colour-safe bleach on coloured or dark clothes?
Yes, our UV Whitening Sheets are colour-safe and designed to brighten whites without affecting coloured garments. Unlike chlorine bleach, they will not simply strip the colour from everything in the wash. However, the whitening benefits are most noticeable on white fabrics, where yellowing and dullness tend to stand out.
Note: avoid using the sheets on wool, silk, leather or cashmere.
Are lemon juice, vinegar or essential oils good bleach alternatives?
Lemon juice, vinegar and sunlight are popular natural alternatives to keep white clothes looking brighter, but each has its limits.
Lemon juice usually needs soaking and sun exposure. Vinegar can help with some residue, but it does not provide the same targeted whitening action. Essential oils, including tea tree oil, may leave clothes smelling fresh, but fragrance alone will not remove deep-set yellowing.
An easier way to revive dull whites
If your white clothes are clean but still look yellow or tired, ordinary detergent may not address the whole problem. A treatment that combines stain removal, oxygen-based whitening and colour correction can do more without adding several bottles and powders to your laundry routine.
